Heroes Orlando Concert reviews
A very good show - but not great

This show was disappointing, but also entertaining on several fronts. Steve Winwood is a wonderful artist, but his set is pretty much always the same unless he is the headliner - which is seldom. For instance, of the 5 times I have seen him, he has never played "Back in the High Life". I understand there is just so much time in a set, but his selection has been pretty much the same, with the exception of the incredible concert with Eric Clapton I was fortunate enough to see. Please surprise me, for such a superb artist, I would like a little more variety.
Rod's staging was extravagant where Steve's was minimalist. The first thing that came to mind was Robert Palmer. Everyone was dressed like to the nines except for Rod. His voice was good and the set started strong. It kind of lost steam and then went more off the tracks when he introduced his daughter to sing a song she had written (pretty nice). The set was disjointed the rest of the evening and Rod failed to sing my favorite song of his - "Every Picture Tells a Story". "Hot Legs" was pretty lame with him kicking soccer balls into the audience, and "Do You Think I'm Sexy" has never been a favorite. In my mind, there are only 2 "authorized" versions of that song - Credence Clearwater Revival and Tina Turner. I think everyone else should just steer clear. One nice touch, however, was his duet with his daughter on "Forever Young.
All in all, an entertaining show that was better than average despite the flaws.
